REVIEW: Maier Sports Metor Rec Women's Rain Jacket
Share
Plus size hiker Claire has been testing the Maier Sports Metor Rec W women's rain jacket over the months of December 2025 and January 2026. She has worn it for walking and daily outings, commuting and more, to give it a thorough review of it's capabilities.
Features
The length of the women’s Metor Rec W rain jacket is longer than most waterproofs on the market, so I have more coverage and that’s important to me. It’ll be suitable for walking, cycling and climbing as no-one wants soggy tummies or bums.

The construction of the hood also impressed me, it’s not too big and very adjustable so whatever the weather’s throwing you can keep your face cosy. It’s detachable too so when I take it to the shops, or as my “just in case it rains” jacket I don’t always have to have the hood attached.
The jacket also features a mesh inner lining, so you have a barrier between you and the waterproof layer of the jacket. I find I often get hot when I wear waterproofs, and jackets without a mesh inner layer can feel the clammy on your skin. This mesh lining is soft and makes me feel more comfortable.

Fit
I was very impressed with the fit, particularly over my chest, shoulders and waist. You’ve got room for movement, it doesn’t pull, and isn’t tight when sitting, which is important. I find the arm are often too long in jackets, but these are a great length. The proportions of the Metor Rec W jacket felt like they had considered a plus size person’s body, and there wasn’t excess fabric at the shoulders or waist.
I'm wearing the Size 52 and my measurements are: Bust: 140cm (55”), Waist: 130cm (51”), Hips: 158cm (62”) so even though the size chart for this product shows body measurements that are a bit smaller than mine, the jacket fits very well. You could size down, or if you’re like me, stick with the one that ensures I can add layers underneath. I’ve worn this jacket with a base layer, t-shirt, fleece and an insulated jacket and it still fits well.
Materials
Being fully wind and waterproof is important, especially for a jacket you want to use for a variety of activities. I’m environmentally conscious so am pleased it’s made of 100% recycled PFC-free and insulated PES fabric. The fabric is soft and has good chunky zips (that have a storm flap on the centre zip to stop leaks).

Overall Impression
I really like the Maier Sports women’s Metor Rec W rain jacket. You’ve got all the features you need for the British weather, and it’ll work well with everyday wear, so you don’t feel like you’re sticking out like a sore thumb when wearing a very outdoorsy coat. I’ve been choosing this jacket when I know I don’t need the ultra-technical features, when the weather is milder, or I’m on a shorter walk or am cycling to meet a friend.
This jacket is a stylish and practical option. Perfect to use for a variety of outdoorsy activities as well as a waterproof and windproof jacket for every day life.
